Trump had made it clear from the start that there would be no US ‘Boots On The Ground’ in IRAN. His initial hope was that once the US and ISRAEL had softened up Iran that KURDS would at least invade Northern Iran, the region around Tehran, where the IRGC has its greatest support.

That made ERDOGAN of Turkey very nervous, and he interfered with that plan. That did not come as a complete surprise and there was always a PLAN B.

The IRGC can be defeated by using a two-step strategy.

v Begin with the bombing of key bridges and highways, making it very difficult for the IRGC to move between different parts of the country.
v Follow that by bombing Electric Power Plants in the regions where the IRGC remains dominant.

This Plan B does have a risk. When a power plant is destroyed it will take years to repair the damage. Extensive bombing could limit Iran’s oil production capabilities for very long time. The economic consequences would be global and long term.

This is not a perfect plan but would be clearly preferable to allowing Iran to develop a Nuclear capability.
