A good deal was said about the difference between Hereditary and Elected chiefs. It was asserted without proof that Elected Chiefs only have jurisdiction within reserves, whereas the Hereditary chiefs rule over all the land claimed by a band. It was mentioned that the Six Nations, aka the Iroquois Confederacy, is the largest Indigenous group in Canada.

OK, here’s where History and Truth matter.

Prior to 1600 the Iroquois lived in New York State, and largely the Finger Lakes region south of Lake Ontario. They traded beaver pelts with the Dutch for guns.

The land stretching east-west along the North coast of Lake Ontario from the Ottawa River to Lake Huron was Huron, aka Wendat territory. Note carefully that Huron was also an Iroquois language.

The Beaver Wars extended from 1607 to 1701.

To make a long story short the Huron tribes were decimated. The men were killed. Women and children were often taken as slaves. One remote village in Quebec, north of Quebec City escaped the slaughter.

The Iroquois pushed as far north as Georgian Bay. Some of you may be familiar with the story of the 1649 burning at a stake of Father Brebeuf a Jesuit priest in Midland Ontario. This is an aspect of Canadian History that Natives do not like to discuss. The issue of who owned land was typically settled by Wars, not treaties among Civilized tribes. One unusual aspect of the Beaver Wars is that it was waged by tribes from within the same Iroquois language group.

NOTE: Ontario is a Huron word that means Great Lake.

I learnt this while sitting in a grade six class in Ottawa, so that begs the question as to why this is not taught in classes today. Please ask yourself why today do teachers harp on diversity and strength, why do they persist in teaching gender ideology that goes against the very principles of Christian lessons as described in the King James Version of the bible and not teach the fundamentals of our own heritage? Is Muslim values Canadian values, as described by our tax dodging, lying, greedy self self-serving Prime Minister?
Has the world gone nuts ?
On another note, all you scholarly types & that would include I would hope teachers should do some research into ALL the tribes that existed pre 1600,s., oh my goodness, do you see how many tribes were killed in the genocide by the interlopers that crossed the US border into Canada. Good lord, do you see the thousands killed and "shock and awe" that was not caused by us "colonials" was it, my oh my, can we say "Indian genocide" and pray tell where is the reconciliation with this?
